GC-4400U: New Photo!
Two vidicon color camera with seperate electronic viewfinder. One vidicon
captures themonochrome, or luma, signal and the other tube captures color
through a red/blue vertically striped filter. The second tube is called
the "color dissector". Note: a seperate CCU / encoder is not used or needed
on this camera. This camera could be used with either the PV-4800U or CR-4400U
portapacks. For use with regular VTR decks, the GA-22AU camera AC adapter
was used to power the camera and break out to regulare video / audio connectors.

GS-4500U: New Photo!
Portable monochrome vidicon camera with built-in electronic viewfinder.
This is the matching camera for the PV-4500U portapack VTR. It was (would
have been?) very serious competition to the Sony 3400. It is such a close
copy of the Sony camera that a desperate person could actually interchange
the operators instructions and probably not even notice the difference!
The GS-4500U weighed about the same as the Sony at around 7 pounds. These
can get very heavy to hold up after just a few minutes! Photo: Book; The
Video Primer by Richard Robinson, (C) 1978 Quick Fox Press. |

GS-4600U: New Photo!
Portable monochrome vidicon camera with built-in electronic viewfinder.
Amazingly light at only four pounds. An ultra-light for its time! JVC was
obviously cognative of the weight problem associated with using small format
cameras. Photo: 1976 JVC catalog. |
